Denise E. Chambliss

Denise Chambliss is a member of Garcia & Gurney’s General Civil Litigation practice group.  As an experienced trial lawyer, her practice is concentrated in the areas of business, real estate, intellectual property, employment, and probate/trust. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants before all Courts of the State of California and the U.S. District Court, Northern California.  Her trial practice covers the Bay Area counties and the Tri-Valley area, including Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Santa Clara County, San Francisco County, and San Joaquin County.

Ms. Chambliss’ practice emphasizes contract disputes, business fraud and tort claims, corporate and partnership disputes, unfair competition, trade secret misappropriation, commercial and residential real estate disputes, broker and agent matters, commercial leasing, and construction defects.  She also represents and advises employers and employees on employment issues, including wage and overtime claims, sexual harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination actions.  In addition, she has experience in probate/trust litigation, including defense of trustees accused of trust mismanagement and/or breach of fiduciary duties.

Education

Ms. Chambliss is a graduate of the University of Houston (B.A. 1992) and South Texas College of Law, Houston (J.D. 1996) where she served as an Assistant Editor for the South Texas Law Review, and was a member of the Appellate Advocacy.  She was a student intern to Magistrate Marcia Crone of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas (1996) and a student extern to Judge Patricia Hancock of the 113th Texas District Court, Harris County, Houston (1996).

Professional Activities

Her professional credentials include the California State Bar (Member, Litigation Section); United States District Court for the Northern District of California; United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; and Texas State Bar (Ret.).

Ms. Chambliss is currently serving as the 2010 Chair of the Trial Section of the Alameda County Bar Association.  She is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the Eastern Alameda County Bar Association.

Ms. Chambliss is a Past President of the Business Networking International (BNI) Livermore chapter, an organization promoting the success of local businesses.  She is also Past Treasurer and a current Advisory Board member for The Law Center, a nonprofit agency assisting Contra Costa County residents with access to pro bono legal representation. She is also an alumnus of the 2007-2008 “Leadership Pleasanton” program.
